The Tournament will be on the 12th of may 2012 at the Pioneer Stadium.

Wellington Vikings succeeded at the South Island Championships

Hi all,

At first thanks to the organizers of the South Island Championship organizers for a great Tournament.

From Wellington following teams made their way to Christchurch:
Men - Vikings H.C., Hutt Hawks H.C. and a combined team of Vic Uni H.C./Spartanz H.C.
Women - Vcombined team of ic Uni H.C./Hutt Hawks H.C.

Results - Men:
1. Vikings H.C.
2. Canterbury H.C.
3. Vic Uni H.C./Spartanz H.C.
4. Auckland H.C.
5. Hutt Hawks H.C.

Recap Men:
All the men teams were playing a round robin and it was close in a lot of games. After half of the games for the day were played the Vikings, Canterbury and the Mixed team (Vic Uni/Spartanz) were really close and the games against each other should lead to a decision about the tournament win.
After the Vikings and the Mixed team (Vic Uni/Spartanz) drawn each other the advantage was with Canterbury who then won against the Mixed team (Vic Uni/Spartanz).
Everything else was going towards the last game of the tournament between the Vikings and the Canterbury team and the dramaturgy was set for a great final. Both teams fought ball for ball, centimetre for centimetre and a few unlucky situation around 10 minutes before the end allowed the Vikings to gain a small lead which they defended to the end.

Results - Women
1. Canterbury Braves
2. Vic Uni H.C./Hutt Hawks H.C.

Recap - Women:

Both women teams played each other three times and each of these games were won by the Canterbury braves. One main difference between the teams was seen as the Canterbury women obviously played longer together and the Wellington Mixed team was game by game building up the team play. The first two matches were won by the Canterbury team with a nice lead and then the third game was really close and Canterbury came away with a one goal win. Unfortunately for the Wellington team who fought hard and brave.

Thanks to everyone all over the country who were able to come down to Christchurch to support our Handball community in Canterbury and thanks to the Canterbury Handball communuity for hosrting another great tournament in 'old' tradiition.

If you have any questions or if you want to register your team please email canterburyhandball@gmail.com

In case you don't have a team I can guarantee you that there are plenty of teams who would be thrilled if you want to join their squad for the tournament.
